2020 RAM 1500

There are six trims available with the 2020 Ram 1500: the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. You also have the option of two cab styles: a crew or a quad cab. The crew cab has full-size rear doors while the quad cab is an extended cab with smaller rear doors. Most trims come standard with the quad cab, but the crew cab is available on all trims.

The engine found on most Ram 1500 trims is a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. There are two other 5.7-liter V-8 engines available and both produce 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The difference between these two engines is that one has a fuel-saving eTorque mild-hybrid system. A new engine option for 2020 is a 3.0-liter diesel engine that produces 260 horsepower and an impressive 480 pound-feet of torque. Each engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all trims come standard with rear-wheel drive.

With the base six-cylinder engine, the 2020 Ram 1500 gets an estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. These numbers are some of the best in its class. With the regular V-8 engine, you get an estimated 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, and those with the eTorque-assisted V-8 engine can get 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

Depending on the configuration, the truck can tow anywhere between 6,250 and 12,750 pounds. Its maximum tow rating is one of the best among pickup trucks.

The Tradesman trim comes with cloth or vinyl upholstery, several USB ports, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touch screen display. The Big Horn adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the Laramie includes heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats, as well as an 8.4-inch touch screen display. With the Rebel, you gain satellite radio and a power outlet, while the Laramie Longhorn features premium leather upholstery and HD radio. The Limited trim has a 12-inch touch screen display and wireless device charging.

Each 2020 Ram 1500 comes standard with a rearview camera and a plethora of safety options. Some of these features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a surround view parking camera, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Its stellar safety features allowed the truck to achieve high marks for safety ratings. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named its crew cab a Top Safety Pick+, which is the organization's highest honor. Those trims with forward collision warning earned the top rating for front crash prevention. Also, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the crew cab a perfect five-star safety rating, while the quad cab earned a four-star rating.
