Day trips are like mini-vacations and are perfect for relaxation and escaping from the weekly routine. Get to know your area, and drive to any of these fabulous spots for a great, fun, relaxing day. The following destinations are close to Wheatland, WY, and worth the drive.

1. Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs is a beautiful city in Colorado. Located in the Rocky Mountains, it offers a wide variety of fun activities for all ages, fantastic lodging alternatives, and breathtaking views.

The city was founded in the early 1900s, and today, it acknowledges and takes pride in its indigenous Ube tribe roots. The Yampa River flows across the city, and you can visit the acclaimed mineral springs. The city offers year-round recreational and sporting events and is only three hours away from Wheatland.

2. Estes Park

Estes Park is Colorado’s original paradise and the perfect base camp to explore the Rocky Mountains. Some of the most popular attractions near Estes Park include visiting the marina or spending the afternoon at the Cascade Creek mini golf. We also recommend sightseeing at Kruger Rock, taking a tour of the Estes Memorial Park Observatory, and buying some souvenirs at the famous Red Rose Rock Shop.

End the day ideally by chilling out during the evening at Estes Distilling Company or the Snowy Peaks Winery. If you drink, remember to do so responsibly, and never drink and drive. Estes Park is only 155 miles away from Wheatland.

3. Boulder

Boulder is a beautiful mountain city located only two and a half hours away from Wheatland. You won’t regret driving the Jeep Gladiator to this fantastic, vibrant city just 170 miles away from Wheatland. At Boulder, you can enjoy a guided bike tour (they have electric bikes for rent), visit an escape room, and shop at the beautiful Pearl Street Mall.
Boulder has a great culinary culture. We recommend getting breakfast at the Snooze A.M. Eatery, where you can try a delicious breakfast sandwich (the eggs and sausage is to die for) or the French toast. Enjoy fresh seafood at Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar, and end your day at one of the many local pubs and bars where you can usually catch a live music show.

4. Custer State Park

If you are looking for a fabulous outdoor adventure, don’t miss out on visiting Custer State Park. The park sits on 71,000 acres of beautiful nature, big trees, and breathtaking views. The park offers plenty of biking and hiking trails, where you can observe local wildlife.

Custer State Park is a paradise for water sports lovers, as there are five lakes on the premises to fish, boat, paddle, and kayak (and you can rent the equipment on the premises). Showers and flush toilets are closed during low seasons, but vault restrooms are available and remain open year-long.
Take the Jeep for service before leaving to ensure you have a great time. Book an appointment at Bob Ruwart Motors today.
